This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 8 losses; Elim Garak! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Ngannou shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ngannou showed some decent athleticism there. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Ngannou (2) vs (0) Garak Garak is trying is best to control the position here. Ngannou perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Garak trying to control but Ngannou postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round. Garak is holding on to half guard well. Ngannou trying to control the pace. Garak is trying to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Garak controlling the position well. Ngannou controlling the action here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ngannou's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Garak is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ngannou performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Garak trying to control but Ngannou postures up.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Ngannou prevents Garak from improving his position. Ngannou slows the pace down in half guard. Further stalling from Ngannou.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Garak is trying to maintain the position but Ngannou is very close to passing his half guard. Ngannou keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Garak moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Garak is pulling down on Ngannou's head. It's preventing any offense from Ngannou, at least for the moment. Garak is trying to control the position but Ngannou postures up.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Ngannou being controlled here momentarily. Ngannou is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Garak keeping full guard, as Ngannou tries to pass.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Garak seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Garak looking for a sweep. Not yet Garak, not yet. Ngannou stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Garak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Ngannou is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Garak looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Ngannou pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Garak is keeping the position for now. Garak is pulling down on Ngannou's head. It's preventing any offense from Ngannou, at least for the moment. Garak is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Ngannou wants to pass the guard but Garak is keeping the position. Garak pulls Ngannou in close to prevent any damage. Ngannou is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Garak working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ngannou doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ngannou manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Garak throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Ngannou trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Garak not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Garak might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ngannou haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Ngannou is fighting to break Garak's control of his arms but Garak is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Garak controls Ngannou momentarily but Ngannou frees himself. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Garak being controlled here, momentarily.
And that's the end of the fight! Ngannou takes the fight on points by 2 to 0. A very excited looking Francisco Ngannou made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction. |
