This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 37 wins and 28 losses; Isaac Vernon! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Kavanagh and Steve Montenegro.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Vernon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Fish is trying to defend but Vernon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Fish (0) vs (2) Vernon Fish tries to get to full guard but Vernon has control of the leg. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fish looking for submissions off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vernon controlling the action here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fish is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Vernon looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Vernon keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fish has a hand on Vernon's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Vernon takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Fish wants to control but Vernon is keeping busy and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vernon slows the pace down in half guard. My spies in HELLCADEMY inform me that Vernon has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Let's hope that Vernon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Vernon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Vernon wants to control but Fish is keeping him busy. Fish is in trouble now - Vernon has advanced to mount! That's five minutes gone in the round. Fish tries to get back to half guard but can't. Fish is working hard here to advance position. Fish reaches up to try and control the position but Vernon seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Fish rolls and tries to escape and now Vernon has his back!

Fish trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Vernon is looking to control Fish but Fish is wriggling around and keeping busy. Fish is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Vernon is looking to take a break and control but Fish is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Fish gets back to half guard. Vernon wants to take a breather but Fish is having none of it.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Vernon just content to control the position. Fish is trying to control Vernon's posture but Vernon avoids it. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Fish tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vernon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Vernon is looking to take a break and control but Fish is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight! Vernon wins on points by 17 to 0. An out of breath and clearly excited Isaac Vernon thanked Pulling Guard for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him). Steve Fish spoke after the fight, saying 'I aint cut out for this'. |
