This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 66 wins and 81 losses; Anthony Lavicci! The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Lavicci shoots in for a takedown but Banner shows good takedown defense. Lavicci fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Lavicci looks for a takedown but Banner sprawls well. Roddy Banner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anthony Lavicci. Banner scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Banner (2) vs (0) Lavicci Banner seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lavicci is trying to maintain the position but Banner is very close to passing his half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lavicci is trying to control Banner's posture but Banner avoids it. Lavicci is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Banner is staying active.

Banner takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Banner wants to pass to mount but Lavicci is defending the position. Lavicci is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Banner looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Lavicci wants to improve his position but Banner is controlling well.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Banner looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Lavicci wants to get back to full guard. Lavicci is still trying to improve position. Banner content to control rather than advance. Lavicci is looking for a sweep. Banner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Banner is pressing down on Lavicci's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lavicci is holding on for now. Lavicci is controlling Banner's trapped leg to prevent Banner from advancing to side control. Lavicci wants to get back to full guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Banner stalling. Lavicci moves into full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Banner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lavicci swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Banner takes the fight on points by 5 to 0. Our winner, Roddy Banner, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. |
