Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Vernon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Potku clinches with his opponent.
Vernon has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Potku after a bit of a struggle. Potku wants to take the fight to the mat but Vernon manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Vernon goes for a takedown in the clinch but Potku prevents it.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Potku won't allow Vernon to sweep him here. Vernon has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Vernon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Potku advances to half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Vernon manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Potku slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Vernon is pulling down on Potku's head to control his posture.

Let's hope that Potku has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Vernon controls Potku momentarily but Potku frees himself.
