This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 131 wins and 79 losses; Moldy Jello! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Franklyn Lucas and Anthony Taglia.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Singleton misses with a takedown attempt - Jello sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Singleton misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Singleton dives in for a single leg takedown but Jello sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Jello changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tubbs Singleton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Jello gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Singleton.

Singleton has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Singleton trying to pass the guard but Jello defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jello tries to roll over but Singleton keeps him under control. Singleton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Singleton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jello for as long as he can get away with. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jello is controlling Singleton's position as best he can from this difficult position. Singleton is controlling the pace.
Singleton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Singleton is pressing down on Jello's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jello is holding on for now. Singleton controlling the action here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jello wants to get back to full guard. Singleton looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Singleton wants to free his trapped foot but Jello is holding on for dear life with his legs. Jello is pressing down on Singleton's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Singleton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Singleton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Singleton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Jello pulls Singleton in close to prevent any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Singleton is stalling in the full guard.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Jello is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Singleton content to stall in guard here. Jello is adopting a defensive guard.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Jello can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Singleton controls the pace. Singleton won't allow Jello to sweep him here. Singleton passes Jello's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Singleton seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Jello is holding on tight.
