PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bam Bam (ranked 3837 p4p, 3844 weight class) and Gracy Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 107 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bam Bam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gracy Jr!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bam looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bam fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jr avoids it really well and circles away.

Bam is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jr's half guard.
Jr keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Bam seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bam wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jr keeps working.
Bam is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jr is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Jr is doing well to control the position and prevent Bam from advancing to side control.
Bam is looking to take a break and control but Jr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bam shoots in looking for a takedown. Jr tries to sprawl out of it but Bam keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jr manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bam Bam. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bam gets caught napping as Jr dives in and scores a takedown. Bam manages to retain guard.
Jr throws a strike but Bam rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jr can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jr should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Jr wants to sweep here but Bam controlling him for the moment.
Bam sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jr's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jr controlling the position for now.
Jr is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bam is trying to control. Jr wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Bam tries to pass to full mount but Jr defends it.

Bam is looking to take a break and control but Jr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bam Bam will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Jr defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bam.

Bam is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jr is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bam is just riding it out for now. Jr eventually gives up the hold.
Gracy Jr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bam is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jr's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jr's back!

Jr rolls, trying to escape but Bam keeps control of the position.
Jr looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bam is really struggling to control Jr but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Bam is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Bam is looking to control Jr but Jr is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Bam wants to control the position but Jr frees himself and scrambles - Bam manages to regain control in side control.
Bam is looking to take a break and control but Jr is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jr is trying to control Bam's posture but Bam avoids it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bam wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jr, who protects the arm well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Jr decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Gracy Jr will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Bam tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jr swivels and escapes.
Bam shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jr defends it nicely.
Bam tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jr sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bam somewhat.

Jr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jr drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bam manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jr has Bam in his guard.

Bam stays in close to Jr's body and controls the position.
Jr lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Jr drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bam looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bam looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bam!

Bam is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jr is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Bam wants to control but Jr is keeping him busy.
Jr can't do much from the bottom here.
Jr regains half guard.
Jr is not content to let Bam control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bam missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jr is staying active underneath Bam, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jr desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Bam is keen to just control but Jr is a slippery customer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Bam avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Bam tries for a takedown but Jr sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jr tries to counter with a clinch but Bam shakes him off and moves away.
Bam shoots for a takedown but Jr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Jr scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Bam wants to control but Jr postures up.

Gracy Jr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jr has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
