This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 51 wins and 55 losses; Ceph Alopodis! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 22 losses; Mean Gean! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Gean dives in for a single leg takedown but Alopodis sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Gean looks for a takedown but Alopodis sprawls well. Alopodis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gean napping and manages to drive through into side control! Alopodis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gean for as long as he can get away with. Gean tries to bench press Alopodis off him but Alopodis keeps the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gean struggling a bit here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gean has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Alopodis is working away from the top position though. Gean felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alopodis in particular looking to stall. Gean is trying to maintain the position but Alopodis is very close to passing his half guard. Alopodis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gean wants to control but Alopodis is keeping busy and won't allow it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gean moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Alopodis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Gean seems keen to control Alopodis's posture. Gean looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alopodis is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gean trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble. Alopodis has the hooks in. Gean is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Gean just trying to survive but Alopodis is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Alopodis really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Gean.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Alopodis controlling from the back. Gean is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Gean keeps trying to improve his position. Alopodis just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

We've been hearing good reports from Alopodis's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Alopodis slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
