This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Cleon Wright ! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Sam clinches up against the cage. Wright gets a trip takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sam is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sam looking for a sweep. Not yet Sam, not yet. Sam keeping full guard, as Wright tries to pass. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wright told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Wright not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Wright trying to control but Sam is working from the bottom. That's three minutes gone in the round. Wright is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Sam wants to improve his position but instead Wright has moved into half guard.
Sam holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Wright wants to pass to mount but Sam is defending the position. Sam has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wright is working away from the top position though.

Sam will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Wright trying to keep a closed guard but Sam is proving a slippery customer.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Sam works a leg free and moves into half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sam in particular looking to stall. Sam prevents Wright from improving his position. Sam perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Sam is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wright sees it coming and defends easily. Sam trying to pass the guard but Wright defending well. Wright keeping hold of Sam's head, controlling as best he can. Still in half guard, Sam seems content to control.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Wright is looking to control Sam's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wright avoid being mounted? Wright desperately trying to maintain half guard.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Sam is figuring out what he wants to do next. Sam seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wright for as long as he can get away with.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Sam is trying to control the action in half guard but Wright is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Sam is pressing down on Wright 's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wright is holding on for now. Still in half guard, Sam seems content to control. Sam prevents Wright from improving his position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
