And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 15 wins and 15 losses; Sea Snake! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Snake shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Rodriquez (0) vs (2) Snake Snake is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Snake trying to control from half guard but Rodriquez is working away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Snake with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Snake is looking to take a break and control but Rodriquez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. We've been hearing good reports from Rodriquez's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

He's being very persistent here but Rodriquez manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Rodriquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Snake is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rodriquez content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Snake has locked up a guillotine! Snake's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Rodriquez is holding on here and Snake must be using up a lot of energy. Rodriquez has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Snake gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
