This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 15 wins and 4 losses; Helio Karelin! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Alec Ball.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Sparxx fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Sparxx closes this distance looking for a takedown but Karelin circles away. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Karelin.
Sparxx closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Karelin quickly recovers to half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Sparxx (2) vs (0) Karelin We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Karelin keeping hold of Sparxx's head, controlling as best he can. Karelin is looking to get back to full guard here but Sparxx has managed to pass to side control instead. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Karelin tries to reverse the position but Sparxx maintains control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Karelin tries to lock up and control but Sparxx gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Karelin sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Sparxx seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Karelin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Karelin keeps control of the position for the meantime. Sparxx content to control rather than advance.

Karelin slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Sparxx is fighting to break Karelin's control of his arms but Karelin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Let's hope that Karelin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Sparxx seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Karelin for as long as he can get away with.  That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Sparxx is trying to stick to Karelin's back but Karelin is turning into Sparxx. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Sparxx's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Karelin. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Sparxx wants to sweep but no luck.
