The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Kersikov is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Wright 's half guard. Kersikov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wright wants to sweep here but Kersikov controlling him for the moment. Wright told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Wright wants to sweep here but Kersikov controlling him for the moment. Wright is controlling Kersikov's posture. Wright looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Kersikov puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Wright wants to improve his position but Kersikov is controlling well.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wright tries to roll over but Kersikov keeps him under control. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kersikov in particular looking to stall.

Wright is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Wright is in all sorts of trouble here.

Wright stops Kersikov from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Wright is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Wright regains half guard. Wright tries to get to full guard but Kersikov has control of the leg.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Kersikov with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Kersikov has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Wright keeping hold of Kersikov's head, controlling as best he can.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kersikov in particular looking to stall. This is a sustained period of stalling by Kersikov. Kersikov wants to pass to mount but Wright is defending the position.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Kersikov is taking a breather. Wright says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Wright is controlling Kersikov's position as best he can from this difficult position. Kersikov content to control rather than advance.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kersikov is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Wright has managed to free his arm - good work. Wright is looking to control Kersikov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wright avoid being mounted?
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Wright is trying to get back to full guard. Kersikov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Kersikov is pressing down on Wright 's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wright is holding on for now.
