This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 39 wins and 20 losses; Cesare Borgia! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 15 wins and 10 losses; Kron Gracie! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Dean Styles and Steve Montenegro.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Gracie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Borgia to the mat! Borgia manages to get full guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Borgia (0) vs (2) Gracie Borgia has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Gracie postures up.
Gracie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's one minute gone in the round. Borgia looking for a sweep. Not yet Borgia, not yet. Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Borgia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Borgia looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Borgia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gracie manages to get himself to full guard.
Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Borgia (2) vs (2) Gracie Our spies down at at HELLCADEMY inform us that Gracie has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Borgia is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Borgia's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Gracie pulls Borgia in close to prevent any damage. Gracie keeping moving, preventing Borgia from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Borgia wants to pass the guard but Gracie is keeping the position. Borgia stays in close to Gracie's body and controls the position. Gracie seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Borgia stopping the sweep attempt from Gracie. Borgia looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie wants to control but Borgia postures up.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Gracie is looking for a sweep. Borgia is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Borgia seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gracie for as long as he can get away with.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Borgia working away. A lull in the action here. Borgia is trying to get an arm triangle but Gracie is defending well. Borgia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Borgia slows the pace down. Borgia is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Borgia content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Borgia working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Borgia working away.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Gracie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Borgia wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Borgia is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Gracie's shoulder. That is not cool. Gracie is looking to regain half guard here but Borgia keeps moving and retains side control.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Borgia controls the position. Borgia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working. Gracie is trying to improve his position. Borgia wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy. Gracie is looking to reverse the position.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Gracie trying to remain calm as Borgia controls from the top position. Borgia continues to stall. Borgia wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy. Gracie tries to get back to half guard but can't. We've been hearing good reports from Borgia's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Gracie is trying to control Borgia's posture but Borgia avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight! Borgia takes the fight on points by 5 to 2. After the fight, Cesare Borgia was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. |
