This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 4 losses; Darsin Bleak! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 23 wins and 27 losses; Rio Rolla! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jorge Garcia and Franklyn Lucas.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Bleak tries for a takedown but Rolla sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Bleak changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rolla tries to avoid it but Bleak manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rolla to the ground. Rolla escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Bleak darts in looking for a takedown but Rolla gets double underhooks and turns Bleak into the cage. Rolla is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darsin Bleak. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rolla is fighting off a takedown attempt but Bleak is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rolla to the mat. Rolla regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Bleak (2) vs (0) Rolla Rolla is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Bleak (2) vs (2) Rolla Bleak is trying to get back to full guard. Rolla tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bleak knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. My spies in LĂ©Crucible inform me that Rolla has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Rolla wants to control but Bleak is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bleak is in trouble now - Rolla has advanced to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Bleak (2) vs (5) Rolla Bleak keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rolla trying to control but Bleak is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bleak is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bleak is working hard here to advance position. Rolla tries to control but Bleak wriggling away. Bleak is trying desperately to improve position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rolla can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bleak is looking to escape. Bleak can't escape the position.
Rolla wants to take Bleak's back but he can't do it this time. Bleak tries to hold on but Rolla pushes him away. Rolla controlling his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bleak keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Bleak slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Bleak tries to roll over but Rolla keeps him under control. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Rolla frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Score +3 for passing guard: Bleak (2) vs (8) Rolla Rolla trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rolla content just to control the position here. Bleak has given up his back. Will we see Rolla going for some submissions?
Score +3 for taking back: Bleak (2) vs (11) Rolla I really don't envy Bleak right now.
Bleak might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Rolla looking for the RNC. Rolla has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Bleak has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Bleak rolls, trying to escape but Rolla keeps control of the position.
Bleak is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Rolla gets his way!
Rolla is looking for the choke from the back position but Bleak is controlling his hands well. Rolla patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Rolla is working for a rear naked choke. Bleak is not defending it well and Rolla has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Bleak refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Bleak's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
