Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nordan Shlat (ranked 4549 p4p, 3834 weight class) and Octavio Maynard (ranked 445 p4p, 0 weight class). Octavio Maynard has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nordan Shlat! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Octavio Maynard! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shlat lands a head kick. Maynard smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Shlat throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Maynard. Excellent takedown into side control there by Maynard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. You can see the frustration on Shlat's face as Maynard controls the position. Shlat tries to bench press Maynard off him but Maynard keeps the position. Maynard sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Shlat is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Maynard tries to move to mount but Shlat blocks the move with his legs. Shlat seems a little lost for a moment, as Maynard dominates the positioning. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maynard looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Shlat is avoiding damage well.
Maynard throws an elbow but Shlat slips to the side and avoids it well. Shlat is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Shlat blocking the ground and pound attempt from Maynard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maynard is figuring out what he wants to do next. Shlat wants to get back to full guard. Well, if Maynard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Maynard lands strikes from half guard. Maynard is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Maynard seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Shlat pushes Maynard off looking to stand but Maynard dives back in and keeps control.
Maynard looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Shlat is breathing heavily.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Maynard looks for a takedown but Shlat sprawls well. Maynard dives in and grabs Shlat's left leg, looking for a takedown. Shlat pushes down on Maynard's head and hops out. Nordan Shlat is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Shlat throws out a leg kick but Maynard moves out of range and Shlat only half commits. Maynard changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Maynard closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Maynard lands in his opponent's guard. Shlat wants to sweep here but Maynard controlling him for the moment. Maynard is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shlat managing to control the position. Maynard looking to pass the guard. Maynard works a leg free and moves into half guard. Maynard is taking a breather. Shlat says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Maynard lands strikes from half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Maynard working the head and body with strikes. Maynard is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Maynard lands with a punch from half guard. Maynard controlling the pace. It looks like Maynard might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Maynard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Maynard closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Maynard is thwarting Shlat's attempts to control the position. Maynard is figuring out what he wants to do next. Shlat is looking to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Maynard lands strikes from half guard. Maynard is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Maynard lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Shlat trying to get back to full guard but Maynard takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Shlat is bucking up trying to escape but Maynard cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Maynard landing shots from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maynard controlling from mount. Maynard postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Shlat looks a forlorn figure.
Maynard has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Maynard controlling from the full mount. Shlat wants to hold on but Maynard pushes him away. Maynard is in the full mount, landing strikes. Maynard controlling the position easily from mount. Maynard pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
