Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nate Poirier (ranked 24695 p4p, 3839 weight class) and Cameron Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Nate Poirier has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Poirier! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Cameron Drake! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Poirier misses with a combination
and Drake counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Poirier! We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Drake controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Drake lands a nice forearm strike. Drake tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Drake slows the pace down. Drake tries to move to mount but Poirier blocks the move with his legs. Drake working the body and head with strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Drake is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Poirier will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Poirier is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Drake has control of an arm but Poirier manages to advance to Drake's back! Poirier gets back to his feet - a bit of a stange decision given the position he was in.
That's one minute gone in the round. Drake shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Drake lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Poirier looks like he's trying to stand up.
Poirier is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Drake's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Drake's back! Poirier knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Drake on the ground. Poirier is hanging on to Drake's back as he tries to escape.
Poirier tries to keep control of the position but Drake is staying busy. Poirier is riding his opponent, not letting Drake buck him off. Drake is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Drake tries to escape but Poirier has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Poirier has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Drake's body.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Drake is trying to stand back up. Drake tries to escape but Poirier has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Drake prevents Poirier from getting a body triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Drake turns into Poirier and is now in his guard.
Poirier has his foot on Drake's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Drake works his way back into a safe position though. Poirier is looking to stand up but Drake isn't so interested in that idea. Drake wants to stand but Poirier has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Drake seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Poirier wants to sweep here but Drake controlling him for the moment. Drake is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Drake advances to half guard. Drake stops Poirier from getting back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Drake wants to lay and pray for a moment but Poirier keeps working. Drake prevents Poirier from improving his position. Poirier is trying to control but can't.
Drake landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Well, if Drake is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Poirier tries to kick Drake off but Drake keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Poirier kicks Drake off and gets back to his feet. Poirier throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Poirier throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Drake crashing down! Drake tries to stagger back to his feet but Poirier just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Drake asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nate Poirier!
