Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terenti Pushkin! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doo Ho Choi! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Choi fails with a takedown attempt. Pushkin is looking to counter the offense by Choi and move into the clinch. Choi fails to land the takedown. Pushkin feinted with a counter takedown. Nice defenses there by Pushkin. Choi is looking to clinch. Pushkin is looking to counter the offense by Choi and move into the clinch. Pushkin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Terenti Pushkin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Doo Ho Choi. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Choi fails with a takedown attempt. Pushkin attempts a counter takedown but Choi avoids it well and moves away. Pushkin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Choi sprawls well initially but Pushkin persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Choi felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pushkin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Pushkin has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Choi defend it? Pushkin steps over the head and cranks it - Choi is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Pushkin!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Terenti Pushkin! Terenti Pushkin is the new lightweight champion! Terenti Pushkin decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
