Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Davies (ranked 5278 p4p, 3905 weight class) and Brian Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tommy Davies! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brian Hayes! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Hayes. Those never looked like landing. Davies feinted there with a counter leg kick. Davies lands with a slapping head kick. Hayes lands a jab.
It looks like Tommy Davies has been cut. Hayes swinging wildly here.
Davies throws a half hearted mid kick. Hayes drops Davies with a beautiful combination! Davies stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hayes is looking for the KO!
Davies is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! Hayes looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Davies! Oh Davies is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Hayes advances nicely into full mount. Davies sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Hayes escapes and gets back to his feet. Hayes throws a series of punches but Davies avoids them all with ease. Hayes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Davies. Davies seems to have got his legs back now. Hayes misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's one minute gone in the round. Davies throws a head kick that misses. Davies misses with a head kick.
Hayes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Davies moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Hayes on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Davies lets loose with a powerful body kick. Hayes will feel that in the morning. Davies with a lazy takedown attempt and Hayes counters with a stiff right hand. Hayes should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Hayes moves into the clinch successfully.
Hayes wants to get back to striking at distance but Davies won't allow it.
Hayes digs a right hand into Davies's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Davies's gas tank. Hayes has picked Davies up - he's going for a ride! Hayes dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Davies is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hayes pulls his head out easily. Davies actively working from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Hayes not doing much here.
Hayes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Davies doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hayes. Hayes tries to pass the half guard into mount. Davies knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davies regains full guard. Nicely done. Davies throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Hayes is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hayes sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Hayes gets to his feet - Davies follows without any prompting. Davies takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Oooooh!!! Hayes has knocked Davies down with a huge combo! Hayes steps away and waves a wobbly Davies back to his feet! This one might not go much longer! This has been an exciting period of action! Davies throws a head kick but Hayes moves out of range.

Hayes throws a nice looking combination but Davies bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Davies dodges the punch combination from Hayes.

Davies keeps Hayes at a distance using the push kick. Davies misses with a looping left. As Davies backs off Hayes throws a huge counter combo but Davies manages to avoid it all. Hayes misses with a double jab.
Davies pushes Hayes away with a front kick. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Hayes dominated that round. The cut man is working on Tommy Davies's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Davies thows a body kick. Hayes tries to catch it but that hurt him. Davies scores with a head kick. Hayes tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. Hayes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hayes moves into range and clinches up with Davies. Davies is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Hayes is keeping busy. Hayes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Hayes swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Davies wants to clinch and Hayes counters with a one-two to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Davies keeps Hayes at a distance using the push kick. Davies shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hayes as he jumps to the side. Davies keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hayes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Hayes slaps away a takedown attempt from Davies, before circling back to the center of the mat. Hayes has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Davies. Hayes clinches. Hayes is trying to push Davies away but Davies has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Hayes has eaten all the pies! Hayes is looking to break free of the clinch but Davies has double underhooks. Hayes prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Davies. That's going to take a lot out of him. Davies scores with a knee to the head.
Hayes displaying some good clinch control by pressing Davies up against the cage. I was talking to Davies's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Davies trying to control the position but instead, Hayes has worked for underhooks and has pushed Davies into the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davies has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hayes after a bit of a struggle. Hayes has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Davies is looking to take this one to the mat. Davies wants to take the fight to the mat but Hayes manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Davies is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. A frustrated look appears on Davies's face as he tries to break the clinch. Hayes gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Davies trying to keep a closed guard but Hayes is proving a slippery customer.

That's better than Hayes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Hayes in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Davies wants to control but Hayes postures up. Davies is being controlled here. Let's hope that Hayes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Davies prevents Hayes from moving into mount. Davies tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hayes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Hayes trying to control the position but Davies is working away. Hayes is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Davies gets back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Davies keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Davies is pressing down on Hayes's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Davies escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hayes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Davies is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hayes is trying to break the clinch but Davies is controlling him. Davies pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Davies goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. A decent looking body kick lands there for Davies. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hayes throws a right and a left that Davies avoids nicely. Davies jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit. Hayes fails to land with a series of punches.
Davies looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hayes is fending him off so far but Davies persists. Nope, Hayes circles away and we're back to standing. Hayes throws a counter combo. Davies throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Hayes throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Davies. Hayes fails in his attempt to clinch. Davies connects with an inside leg kick. Hayes throws a right and a left that both miss. Davies ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hayes moves away. Davies throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

And that's the end of the fight! Brian Hayes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Hayes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
