PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Zuev (ranked 924 p4p, 24115 weight class) and Dwight Shrute (ranked 118 p4p, 574 weight class). Shrute has chosen Battlestart Galactica theme as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aleksandr Zuev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 39 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dwight Shrute!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zuev cracks Shrute with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Zuev stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zuev wants it to stay on the feet.
Zuev buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Zuev lands with a cross.
Zuev feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Shrute sprawling to the canvas! Shrute rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Zuev finish him?!
Shrute is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Zuev lands a jab to Shrute's midsection.
Shrute is still on wobbly legs! Can Zuev finish him?
Zuev throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Shrute looks winded!
Zuev weaves into range and cracks Shrute right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! Shrute goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! Zuev is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Aleksandr Zuev!
A less than humble Aleksandr Zuev misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
