PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Preston (ranked 299 p4p, 95 weight class) and Eric Frost (ranked 35 p4p, 12 weight class). Frost has chosen Procreation (of the Wicked) as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Preston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Frost!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Preston throws an overhand right that lands on Frost's shoulder, as Frost tries to avoid the shot.
Preston misses with a lunging right hand

and Frost counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Preston is refusing to be controlled, as Frost sits in half guard.
Preston wants to improve his position but Frost is controlling well.
Still in half guard, Frost seems content to control.
Frost uses his free foot to push down on Preston's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Preston.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frost trying to control but Preston is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Frost sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Preston tries to hold on but Frost postures up.
Frost misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Frost scoring with strikes but Preston is staying in there.
Preston knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Frost on the ground.
Frost throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Frost can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Preston is looking to escape.

Frost is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Preston has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Preston!

Frost seems keen to control Preston's posture.
Frost bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Preston's guard.

Frost tries to free his leg and advance position but Preston is retaining full guard.
Frost's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Preston keeping moving, preventing Frost from controlling successfully.
Frost looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Frost works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Preston regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Frost.
Frost trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Preston manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Frost looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Frost controlling Preston's posture.
Preston looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Frost has control of Preston's left arm, preventing Preston from doing any damage.

Frost is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Preston defends well.
Frost wants to sweep but no luck.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Frost controlling Preston's posture.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Frost dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Horrible takedown attempt by Frost or perhaps it was just good defense by Preston, which made it look bad.
Mike Preston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Preston scores with a sloppy right hand. Frost should have avoided that one.
Preston throws a head kick that misses.
Frost tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Preston looks to land a right hand but Frost moved out of range.
Frost drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Preston defends it well.
A swing and a miss from Preston.
Frost gets cracked there but stands up to it.
The fighters circling - Preston throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
We've been told by Preston's head coaches at 3Band MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

and Frost counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Frost is pushing down on Preston's leg trying to pass to half guard. Preston is fighting to maintain full guard but Frost has managed to sneak the leg through.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Frost in particular looking to stall.
Frost wants to lay and pray for a moment but Preston keeps working.

Frost working the head and body with strikes.
Frost thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Preston's head.
Frost wants to pass to mount but Preston is defending the position.

Frost is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Preston is just riding it out for now. Frost eventually gives up the hold.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Preston tries to roll over but Frost keeps him under control.

Frost seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Preston is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Eric Frost!
