The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Cabrera tries to score a power double leg takedown but Njagi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cabrera somewhat.
Njagi shoots for a takedown but Cabrera saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Njagi looking for a guillotine here but Cabrera defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Njagi is pressing down on Cabrera's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cabrera controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Njagi seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Njagi has his foot on Cabrera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cabrera works his way back into a safe position though.

Njagi isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cabrera stacks Njagi on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cabrera!

It looks like Cabrera might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Njagi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Cabrera is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Njagi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Njagi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cabrera manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Njagi has Cabrera in his guard.

Njagi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cabrera gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Njagi is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Cabrera has his hands clasped together but Njagi extends and breaks Cabrera's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Njagi.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 6:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Abasi Njagi!
A determined Abasi Njagi didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
