Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nate Poirier (ranked 4981 p4p, 3850 weight class) and Duke Ayers (ranked 0 p4p, 424 weight class). Nate Poirier has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Poirier! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Duke Ayers! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ayers drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Poirier fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ayers throws a wild body kick that Poirier sees coming a mile off. Poirier throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Ayers counters with a right hand to the body. Poirier misses with a combination
letting Ayers counter with a right hand. Ayers shoots in and bounces Poirier off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Poirier is looking to stand up but Ayers isn't so interested in that idea. Ayers slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Let's hope that Ayers has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Poirier wants to stand but Ayers is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ayers wants to stand but Poirier is controlling his posture from full guard. Poirier wriggles free and stands up. Poirier misses with a few strikes there.
Poirier swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ayers counters with a series of strikes. Poirier will be more careful next time no doubt. Sloppy strikes from Poirier. Those never looked like landing. Ayers dives in and scores a takedown into Poirier's guard. Ayers looking to pass the guard. Ayers advances to half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ayers is nestled in close to Poirier, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Poirier is trying to stand up here but Ayers is controlling him well. Ayers is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Poirier looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Ayers content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Ayers. Ayers working Poirier over with strikes. Ayers tries to stand and escape but Poirier is controlling the position. Poirier misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Poirier tries to kick Ayers off but Ayers keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Poirier circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ayers has taken the fight to the clinch.
Ayers decides to pull guard. Poirier wants to stand but Ayers has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Poirier postures up.
Poirier wants to get up but he can't break Ayers's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Ayers is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Poirier pushes Ayers off looking to stand but Ayers dives back in and keeps control.
Ayers controlling the action here. Poirier pushes Ayers off and gets back to his feet. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Duke Ayers dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Ayers instigates a clinch. Poirier is struggling to control the position. Ayers breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Poirier misses with a double jab.

Poirier closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ayers circles away. Ayers feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Poirier has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ayers off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ayers closes the distance and clinches. Ayers breaks from the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round. Poirier throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ayers's waist but Ayers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Poirier off to one side. Poirier throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ayers moves into the clinch. Ayers is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Poirier can't fight it off and eventually Ayers manages to take the fight to the floor. Poirier looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Ayers is looking to stand up but Poirier won't let him. Ayers controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Poirier wants to stand and escape but Ayers is having none of it. Ayers is in close to Poirier's body, working some short punches and elbows. Ayers tries to free his leg and advance position but Poirier is retaining full guard. Poirier wants to get back to his feet but Ayers is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ayers slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Ayers in the domination position with Poirier hanging on. Poirier is not content to let Ayers control the position. Poirier is trying to get back to his feet. Poirier trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Ayers lands a decent elbow from side control. Poirier seems a little lost for a moment, as Ayers dominates the positioning. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ayers wants to stand but Poirier is controlling his arm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Poirier is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ayers asserts his dominance and retains side control. Poirier is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Poirier stops Ayers from passing to mount. Ayers is working Poirier over with some ground and pound from side control. The referee asks Ayers politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ayers prefers to stall for the moment though. Poirier is trying to buck Ayers off. Ayers is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Poirier knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Poirier prevents Ayers from moving into mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Ayers tries to stand but Poirier is controlling his head. Ayers has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Poirier wants to get back to his feet. Ayers tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Ayers is chipping away with strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Poirier tries to escape but Ayers is in control. Poirier bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Duke Ayers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards. Poirier throws a one two combo.
It looks like Duke Ayers has been cut. Poirier tries a head kick but it misses.

Ayers stuffs the takedown attempt from Poirier. Poirier gets slowly back to his feet. Ayers changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Poirier looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Ayers wants to stand but Poirier is controlling his arm. Ayers takes a little break here. Poirier wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Ayers thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ayers remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yet more stalling tactics from Ayers. Poirier is looking to regain half guard here but Ayers keeps moving and retains side control. Ayers working the ground and pound from side control. Ayers landing strikes. Ayers prevents Poirier from escaping the position. Poirier tries to buck Ayers off but Ayers is having none of it. Ayers controls the position. Ayers is trying to get an arm triangle but Poirier is defending well. Poirier knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ayers on the ground. Ayers lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Poirier down.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Poirier is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Poirier bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Ayers ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Poirier rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ayers moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Poirier throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ayers. Poirier pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Poirier throws a right and a left that both miss. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A momentary lapse in concentration from Poirier enables Ayers to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Poirier manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Poirier wants to stand and escape but Ayers is having none of it. Ayers passes Poirier's left leg - he's now in half guard. Ayers works his foot free and advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ayers controlling the pace for now. Poirier is trying to stand up. Ayers is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Poirier has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Ayers landing strikes from the mount and Poirier is in trouble! Duke Ayers has got the better of the ground game so far. Ayers is in the full mount, landing strikes. Poirier wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Poirier tries to buck Ayers off but he can't manage it. Ayers landing strikes from the mount and Poirier is in trouble! Ayers can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Poirier is looking to escape. Ayers takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Poirier tries to buck Ayers off but Ayers takes his back! Ayers is riding his opponent, not letting Poirier buck him off. Poirier is trying to stand back up.
And that's the end of the fight! Duke Ayers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Ayers winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
