Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ayers drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Poirier fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ayers throws a wild body kick that Poirier sees coming a mile off.

Ayers shoots in and bounces Poirier off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Ayers feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Poirier throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ayers's waist but Ayers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Poirier off to one side.

Ayers is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Poirier can't fight it off and eventually Ayers manages to take the fight to the floor. Poirier looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ayers stuffs the takedown attempt from Poirier. Poirier gets slowly back to his feet.
Ayers changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Poirier looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Ayers thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Ayers remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
