PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tetsuo Kayaku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tetsuo Kayaku!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King throws a right and a left that Kayaku avoids nicely.
Kayaku bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
King misses with a wild body shot.

Kayaku feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

King seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Kayaku got a little sloppy there for a moment and King has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kayaku has managed to get both his arms back between King's legs - danger averted.

King wants to improve his position but instead Kayaku has moved into half guard.

Kayaku is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, King has managed to free his arm - good work.

King is staying active underneath Kayaku, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kayaku is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kayaku wants to free his trapped foot but King is holding on for dear life with his legs.
King has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts King, as that shot connected.
King lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kayaku circles away quickly and effectively.
Kayaku takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
King throws a jab but it's blocked by Kayaku.
King displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kayaku.
King throws a right and a left that both miss.
King looks to score with a jab to the body but Kayaku is just out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kayaku closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming King to the mat! King manages to get full guard.
King tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kayaku wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King tries to strike from the bottom.

Kayaku dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Kayaku's head and hops out.
King thows a left - swing and a miss!

King misses with a jab, cross combination.
Kayaku swings away with a body shot that misses
and King counters with a left to the body.
Kayaku slips under a jab.
Kayaku staying out of range there.
Kayaku just misses with a punch to the body.
King throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kayaku stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
King clobbers Kayaku with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
King swings and misses with a hook to the body.
King punishes Kayaku's body with a nice straight punch.
Kayaku moves away from the strike by King.
King throws a combination. Kayaku tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
King swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kayaku ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

King gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kayaku to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kayaku trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kayaku is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
King looking for a sweep. Not yet King, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David King dominated that round.
That's time! King's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Kayaku seems to be looking for submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Kayaku will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
David King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tetsuo Kayaku.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
King throws a looping overhand right but Kayaku ducks down to avoid it.
Kayaku avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Kayaku shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches King napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Kayaku lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

King is trying to control but can't.
King is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
King is trying to get back to full guard.
Kayaku keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
King slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
King looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kayaku is one step ahead there.
King is trying to keep Kayaku in close.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
King keeping moving, preventing Kayaku from controlling successfully.

King rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kayaku moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Tetsuo Kayaku will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

King is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kayaku.
The fighters circling - King throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

and King counters with a series of strikes. Kayaku will be more careful next time no doubt.
King throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kayaku.
Kayaku dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Kayaku's head and hops out.
David King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tetsuo Kayaku.
Kayaku misses with an uppercut. King saw that one coming.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kayaku wants to advance to full mount but King doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Kayaku seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

King pushes Kayaku off looking to stand but Kayaku dives back in and keeps control.

King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kayaku wants to work for an arm triangle but King is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are battling for position here. King manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Tetsuo Kayaku has got the better of the ground game so far.

Tetsuo Kayaku comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kayaku has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
