PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Prescott (ranked 3075 p4p, 5005 weight class) and Neil Park (ranked 174 p4p, 235 weight class). Neil Park will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Samuel Prescott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Neil Park!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Steven Brown and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Park misses with a series of wild punches.
A head kick by Park misses

and Prescott counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Prescott is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Prescott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Park swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Prescott controls from within his opponent's guard.

Park looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Prescott passes into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Prescott goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Park rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Prescott's guard! Nice work there by Park!

Park got a little sloppy there for a moment and Prescott has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Park has managed to get both his arms back between Prescott's legs - danger averted.

Park is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Park is looking to stand up but Prescott won't let him.

Prescott has his foot on Park's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Park works his way back into a safe position though.
Park chips away with some ground and pound.
Prescott might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Prescott is working an open guard so Park takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Park throws a head kick but Prescott moves out of range.

Prescott feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Prescott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Park swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Park wants to stand and escape but Prescott is having none of it.
Prescott won't allow Park to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Prescott's corner is telling him to maintain position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Park can't keep his opponent in guard - Prescott advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Prescott prevents Park from standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Park tries to sprawl but Prescott drives through with a takedown into half guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Park throws a lazy body kick

and Prescott counters with a nice double leg into side control. Park won't be happy with that.
Prescott is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Park can do to turn this around?

Prescott wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Park, who protects the arm well.
Park is looking to reverse the position.
Park manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Prescott is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Park defends it well.
Still in half guard, Prescott seems content to control.

Park tries to roll over but Prescott keeps him under control.

Park pushes Prescott off looking to stand but Prescott dives back in and keeps control.

Prescott looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Park wants to get back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Prescott is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Park is just riding it out for now. Prescott eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Park pushes Prescott off looking to stand but Prescott dives back in and keeps control.

Park actively working from the bottom here.

Prescott is working for a submission of some sort.
Prescott seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Park wants to get back to his feet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Prescott wants to control but Park is keeping him busy.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Park gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Prescott to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Park is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Prescott defends well.

Park has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Prescott is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Park.

Prescott wants to control but Park is keeping him busy.

A lull in the action here as Prescott stalls from top position.
Park sneaks back into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Prescott gets tackled into the cage by Park. Park maintains the clinch.
Prescott tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Park is trying to force a seperation but Prescott has the dominant position.

Park is sitting in close to Prescott's body. Prescott has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Park is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Park is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Prescott.

A very excited looking Samuel Prescott rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
