Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Will Bond! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Valverde! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bond misses with a kick to the body and Valverde counters with a nice double leg into guard. Valverde got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bond has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Valverde has managed to get both his arms back between Bond's legs - danger averted. Valverde trying to control but Bond is working from the bottom. Valverde throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bond works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Valverde really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bond. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Bond keeping moving, preventing Valverde from controlling successfully. Bond not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bond is controlling Valverde's posture. Valverde in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Valverde drops back looking for a leg! Bond is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bond manages to kick Valverde off! Valverde jumps back into Bond's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bond looking for a triangle here. Valverde is fighting it but it looks tight! Bond pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Valverde is tapping out - this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Will Bond!
