PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Jones (ranked 2214 p4p, 1492 weight class) and Mate Magyar (ranked 180 p4p, 131 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Jackson Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Mate Magyar! The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Viktor Lagutenko and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jones tries to keep at a distance but Magyar has taken the fight into the clinch. Jones creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Magyar's defenses. Magyar lands a hook to the side of the head. Magyar has Jones pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Magyar pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jones tumbling to the mat - Magyar dives into Jones's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Magyar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Magyar makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Jones definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Jones controls Magyar momentarily but Magyar frees himself. Magyar throws a big elbow that misses. Magyar distracts Jones with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Magyar scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Magyar is controlling him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Magyar keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head. Magyar is stalling in the full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jones keeping full guard, as Magyar tries to pass. Magyar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Jones wants to sweep here but Magyar controlling him for the moment. Magyar's corner is telling him to maintain position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Magyar passes Jones's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Jones is not content to let Magyar control the position. Jones keeping hold of Magyar's head, controlling as best he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Magyar seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Magyar working the head and body with strikes. Magyar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jones with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Magyar prevents Jones from standing back up.
Jones manages to get to full guard.
Magyar lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Magyar looking to pass the guard. Magyar drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Magyar as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Jones screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Magyar! Nice submission victory there!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Mate Magyar! Mate Magyar decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
