Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Byron Blythe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Happy Gilmore! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Steven Brown and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gilmore swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Gilmore throws a right hand that Blythe ducks under and follows up with a left that Blythe also avoids with ease. Gilmore throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Blythe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Gilmore. Gilmore misses with a double jab.
Gilmore throws a big shot that misses. Gilmore takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Gilmore walks into a straight right hand from Blythe. Blythe uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gilmore. Gilmore throws a right and a left that both miss. Some bone on bone action there as Blythe checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Blythe throws a right and a left that Gilmore avoids nicely. Gilmore throws a combination that misses and Blythe counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Gilmore looks gassed! A right-left combo lands from Blythe. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nice combo by Blythe! Oh, that's hurt him - Gilmore falls to the canvas and Blythe follows him into side control.
It looks like Happy Gilmore has been cut. Blythe is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gilmore knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gilmore can do anything to dispel that myth. Blythe passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Gilmore! The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's one minute gone in the round. Blythe sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Poor strikes thrown by Blythe there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Blythe is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Gilmore is forced to tap! Great finish!
