Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Taylor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Jones! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Sam Margolis and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones pushing down on Taylor's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Jones looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Jones scoring with strikes to the body and head. Jones performing his best blanket impression for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Taylor gets back to full guard.
Taylor is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taylor working for a triangle but Jones defends it easily.
Jones is working Taylor over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Jones chips away with some ground and pound. Taylor is trying to control the position but Jones postures up. Jones lands a couple of decent looking shots. Jones looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Taylor is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones is looking to advance position but Taylor has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Taylor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Jones regains half guard. Taylor lands with a punch from half guard. Jones is controlling Taylor's trapped leg to prevent Taylor from advancing to side control. Jones is trying to get back to full guard. Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Taylor sits in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones gets back to full guard.
Taylor trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Taylor is posturing up here but Jones has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Taylor tries to roll out but it's too tight and Taylor has to tap! Slick submission there by Jones!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Johnny Jones! After winning the bout, Johnny Jones thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. In defeat, John Taylor stepped up to the mic, saying 'i will be back'.
