Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jonathas Araujo (ranked 683 p4p, 1066 weight class) and Richard Hall (ranked 70 p4p, 102 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonathas Araujo! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 44 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Richard Hall! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hall clinches up against the cage. We've been hearing reports that Araujo has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Hall successfully pulls guard.
Araujo advances to half guard. Araujo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hall sees it coming and defends easily. Hall trying to control but Araujo postures up.

Araujo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hall doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Araujo. Araujo is looking for a kimura but Hall is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Araujo to get the leverage. Araujo is trying to work for a kimura but Hall is defending well.

Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Araujo is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Hall can't fight it off and eventually Araujo manages to take the fight to the floor. No, Araujo has managed to get both his arms back between Hall's legs - danger averted. Hall pulls Araujo in close to prevent any damage. Araujo passes Hall's left leg - he's now in half guard. Araujo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hall is just riding it out for now. Araujo eventually gives up the hold. Araujo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hall can do to turn this around? Araujo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hall knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Araujo has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Araujo controlling from mount. Araujo is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hall has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hall! Araujo keeping moving, preventing Hall from controlling successfully. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Araujo is pulling down on Hall's head to control his posture. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Jonathas Araujo will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hall felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Hall has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Araujo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Hall had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Araujo defends it easily. Araujo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hall swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hall prevents Araujo from moving into mount. Hall is trying to control Araujo's posture but Araujo avoids it. Hall tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Araujo presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jonathas Araujo. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Araujo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
