PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kebab Mabab (ranked 24167 p4p, 24756 weight class) and Rafael Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Rafael Gracie enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kebab Mabab!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rafael Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in but no luck this time.

Gracie gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mabab's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mabab is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.
Gracie looks winded!
Mabab works to advance to full mount. Gracie defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mabab tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mabab seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gracie for as long as he can get away with.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mabab continues to stall.
Mabab has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mabab's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mabab tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gracie keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Mabab sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Mabab.
Further stalling from Mabab.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gracie tries to hold on but Mabab postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kebab Mabab dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mabab feints and as Gracie raises his hands in defense, Mabab changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gracie is trying to keep Mabab in close.

Gracie throws his legs up looking for a submission but Mabab uses it to pass to side control.
Mabab is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Gracie's shoulder. That is not cool.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie stops Mabab from passing to mount.
Mabab controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
More hug and hope from Mabab.

Mabab has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gracie gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Mabab counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mabab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Mabab has picked Gracie up - he's going for a ride! Mabab dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Mabab decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Mabab instigates a clinch.

Mabab wants the takedown. Gracie is fighting it off but Mabab persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Gracie's guard against the cage.
Mabab stays in close to Gracie's body and controls the position.
Mabab advances position into side control!
Mabab controls the position.
Kebab Mabab overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Mabab tries to advance to mount but Gracie denies him.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
You can see the frustration on Gracie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gracie is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Gracie seems a little lost for a moment, as Mabab dominates the positioning.
Mabab continues to hold on tight.

Mabab decides to stand back up. Mabab steps back and let's Gracie get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kebab Mabab dominated that second round.
That's time! Mabab's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Mabab shoots in and bounces Gracie off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mabab controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Mabab is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gracie can do to turn this around?
Gracie takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mabab got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mabab has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mabab stands and throws Gracie's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gracie is being controlled here.
Gracie is trying to improve his position.
Gracie stops Mabab from passing to mount.
A lull in the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Mabab decides to stand back up. Mabab steps back and let's Gracie get back to his feet.

Mabab moves into the clinch.

Mabab gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Gracie can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mabab controls the pace.
Mabab looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mabab slips nicely into half guard.
Mabab is taking a breather. Gracie says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Mabab is stinking the place up with his stalling.
Gracie trying to control from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mabab content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Gracie gets caught napping as Mabab dives in and scores a takedown. Gracie manages to retain guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kebab Mabab showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mabab has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
