Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Franco Ferrell (ranked 2934 p4p, 3782 weight class) and Rick Viaz (ranked 276 p4p, 318 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Franco Ferrell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Viaz! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, William Gold and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Viaz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ferrell swats him away and circles back towards the center. Ferrell went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Viaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Ferrell counters by moving into the clinch. Ferrell crunches a lovely knee into Viaz's ribcage. Ferrell is trying to trip Viaz. He has hold of a leg but Viaz is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Ferrell persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Viaz has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ferrell off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Viaz misses with a takedown and Ferrell counters with a head kick. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Viaz shoots in for a double leg but Ferrell sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. It looked like Ferrell was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Franco Ferrell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Viaz. Viaz shoots in for a takedown but Ferrell shows good takedown defense. Ferrell looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. Viaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Ferrell counters by moving into the clinch. Ferrell has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Viaz regains guard immediately.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ferrell gets to his feet. Viaz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Viaz has his takedown stuffed and Ferrell counters with a straight right hand. Viaz with a lazy takedown attempt and Ferrell counters with a big head kick but Viaz shrugs it off. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Viaz is defended easily by Ferrell. Viaz looks winded! Viaz misses with a takedown and Ferrell counters by moving into the clinch. Viaz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ferrell pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Viaz shoots in looking for a takedown. Ferrell tries to sprawl out of it but Viaz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ferrell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Ferrell is looking to counter with head kicks. Rick Viaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Viaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ferrell's waist but Ferrell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Viaz off to one side. Ferrell stuffs the takedown attempt from Viaz. Viaz gets slowly back to his feet. Viaz shoots for a takedown but Ferrell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Viaz with a lazy takedown attempt and Ferrell counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ferrell. Viaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ferrell walks away with a smile on his face. Viaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Ferrell leaves Viaz with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Viaz moves in looking to clinch but Ferrell pushes him off. Ferrell lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Viaz fails to land the takedown. Viaz misses with a takedown and Ferrell counters with a flying knee. Nice. Viaz shoots and misses and Ferrell counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Viaz with a lazy takedown attempt and Ferrell counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Viaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Ferrell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Viaz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Ferrell counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Viaz tries for a takedown but Ferrell circles away easily and Ferrell counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Ferrell gets a trip takedown into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ferrell in particular looking to stall. Ferrell working over Viaz with some ground and pound. Viaz looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Ferrell is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Viaz has managed to free his arm - good work. Viaz is looking to improve his position.
Ferrell controlling the pace. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Franco Ferrell dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Viaz moves to clinch but Ferrell breaks away and Ferrell counters with a lovely straight right hand! Viaz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ferrell paws at him with a jab and circles away. Ferrell lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Viaz with a lazy takedown attempt and Ferrell counters by clinching up. Ferrell has clasped his hands together around Viaz's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Ferrell stands up. Ferrell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Ferrell looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Viaz scores with a hook. Viaz is looking to clinch but Ferrell is avoiding it.
As Viaz looks to move away, Ferrell throws a big counter combo but Viaz just gets out of the way.

Ferrell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Viaz. Ferrell throws a big counter combination but Viaz scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. and Ferrell holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Ferrell has clasped his hands together around Viaz's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Viaz wants to get back to his feet but Ferrell is dominant here and he's now got Viaz's back! Ferrell is persistently looking for the submission but Viaz is defending it well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Ferrell is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Viaz knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Viaz for a finish. Ferrell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Viaz can do to turn this around?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Viaz trying to control the hands but Ferrell breaks the grip. Viaz is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Ferrell gets his way!

Franco Ferrell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Viaz can't escape the position.
