PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ashi Baray (ranked 2982 p4p, 25559 weight class) and Patrick Kimchi (ranked 307 p4p, 468 weight class). Patrick Kimchi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ashi Baray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick Kimchi!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa J�rvil�inen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kimchi.
Baray lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Baray throws the kick towards the body but Kimchi avoids it.
Baray stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Baray wants it to stay on the feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kimchi or perhaps it was just good defense by Baray, which made it look bad.
Ashi Baray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Kimchi.
Baray shoots in and drives through. Kimchi sprawls well.
Kimchi shoots in but Baray avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kimchi dives in and grabs Baray's left leg, looking for a takedown. Baray pushes down on Kimchi's head and hops out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baray shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kimchi but Kimchi pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Baray stuffs the takedown attempt from Kimchi. Kimchi gets slowly back to his feet.
Baray appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Kimchi lands a high kick!

Baray pushes Kimchi up against the cage in a clinch.
Baray is pushing Kimchi up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Kimchi lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Kimchi tries to break free but Baray pushes him back against the cage.
Baray content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Kimchi stops a takedown attempt from Baray.

Baray gets control of Kimchi's arms and successfully pulls guard. Baray will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Baray looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Kimchi tries to stand but Baray is controlling from the bottom.
Baray looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kimchi is one step ahead there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Baray looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Baray is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Baray looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Baray seems keen to control Kimchi's posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Baray pulls Kimchi in close to prevent any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ashi Baray will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Kimchi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Baray's waist but Baray gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kimchi off to one side.

Baray closes the distance and clinches.
Baray is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kimchi can do to turn this around?
Baray tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kimchi just stands there and leans against the cage.

Baray turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Baray manages to end up in side control.
Kimchi wants to get back to his feet but Baray is dominant here and he's now got Kimchi's back!
Kimchi looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Baray really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Kimchi.
Kimchi rolls, trying to escape but Baray keeps control of the position.

Kimchi just trying to survive but Baray is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Baray looking for the choke from the back.
Baray is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Can Kimchi hold on?! Baray is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.

Kimchi defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard.
Baray on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Baray tries to get out of the position.
Kimchi looking to sit in guard and control but Baray gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Baray pushes down on Kimchi's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Baray content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Nice strikes from Baray there.

Baray's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baray thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kimchi's head.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kimchi is trying to control but Baray passes into side control!
Baray is looking to take a break and control but Kimchi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Baray takes a little break here. Kimchi wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ashi Baray dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Baray throws a combination that misses
and Kimchi counters with a three punch combo that has Baray backing up. Baray nods at Kimchi to acknowledge the strikes.

Kimchi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Baray counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Kimchi is working an open guard so Baray takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Kimchi tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Baray manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kimchi is looking to clinch.
Kimchi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Kimchi darts in looking for a takedown but Baray gets double underhooks and turns Kimchi into the cage.
Ashi Baray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Patrick Kimchi.
Kimchi shoots for a takedown but Baray saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Baray.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Baray is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kimchi's shoulder. That is not cool.

Baray cracks Kimchi with a big right hand but Kimchi just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Kimchi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Baray wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kimchi, who protects the arm well.
Kimchi gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Patrick Kimchi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Baray postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kimchi looks a forlorn figure.
Baray scoring with strikes but Kimchi is staying in there.

Baray lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Kimchi is bucking up trying to escape but Baray cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Kimchi wants to hold on but Baray pushes him away.

BOOM! Baray connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Baray postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Kimchi badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Baray around the waist but Baray pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Baray is the winner by TKO! Baray jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ashi Baray!
