PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kenji Nakamura (ranked 25482 p4p, 3788 weight class) and Moacho Yagoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Nakamura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Moacho Yagoni!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Sosuke Kotani and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Yagoni looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Nakamura scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Yagoni manages to mount him!

Yagoni is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
We've been hearing reports that Nakamura has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Yagoni tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Nakamura counters with a nice uppercut.
Yagoni throws a lazy body kick
and Nakamura counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Nakamura gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nakamura is looking to stand up but Yagoni isn't so interested in that idea.

Nakamura pulls Yagoni in to control the position.
Yagoni works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Yagoni is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Nakamura defends it well.
Yagoni passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Nakamura!
Yagoni wants to control the pace but Nakamura is squirming around nicely.

Yagoni takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Yagoni can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Nakamura is looking to escape.

Yagoni stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

and Nakamura cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Yagoni is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kenji Nakamura has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Moacho Yagoni.

Yagoni closes the distance and clinches.
Nakamura has had enough of the clinch but Yagoni keeps him there for the moment.
Yagoni tries to pull guard but Nakamura holds him up against the cage and eventually Yagoni drops back down to his feet.
Yagoni is trying to drag Nakamura to the mat but Nakamura just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Nakamura looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Yagoni escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yagoni looks to clinch
and Nakamura counters with a right hand to the body.

Nakamura rushes Yagoni and presses him up against the cage.

Yagoni manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Yagoni throws his legs up looking for a submission but Nakamura uses it to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yagoni is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Nakamura is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Yagoni is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Moacho Yagoni will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Yagoni slaps away a takedown attempt from Nakamura, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Yagoni goes for a double leg but Nakamura avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nakamura continues to drive forward.

Nakamura changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yagoni tries to avoid it but Nakamura manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yagoni to the ground. Yagoni escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Moacho Yagoni seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yagoni throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nakamura throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Yagoni blocks it with crossed arms.

Yagoni has his foot on Nakamura's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nakamura works his way back into a safe position though.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yagoni can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Nakamura blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Nakamura is looking to break free of the clinch but Yagoni has double underhooks.

Yagoni swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nakamura tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yagoni swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Nakamura lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Kenji Nakamura is winning the standup battle so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yagoni fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Nakamura feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Yagoni not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yagoni is looking to stand up but Nakamura isn't so interested in that idea.

Kenji Nakamura showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Nakamura has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
