Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Gaul stuffs the takedown. San tries to clinch there but Gaul circles away.
Gaul gets caught flat footed, as San shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: San (2) vs (0) Gaul Gaul seems keen to control San's posture. San trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. San advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: San (5) vs (0) Gaul We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gaul tries to bench press San off him but San keeps the position. San tries to advance to mount but Gaul denies him. San definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

San is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gaul has escaped the position, nice work there. Gaul is trying to work for a sweep but San has mounted him! Score +2 for reaching mount: San (7) vs (0) Gaul Gaul is squirming around, avoiding San's attempts to control the action. Gaul is looking to improve his position but San isn't that keen on the idea. San tries to control but Gaul wriggling away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gaul regains half guard. San is keen to just control but Gaul is a slippery customer.
San is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gaul is just riding it out for now. San eventually gives up the hold. Gaul won't allow San to pass to mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Gaul is concentrating on defense, preventing San from advancing position. Gaul is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gaul keeping hold of San's head, controlling as best he can. San is thwarting Gaul's attempts to control the position. Gaul tries to get to full guard but San has control of the leg. San works his foot free and advances to mount. Score +3 for passing guard: San (10) vs (0) Gaul
