The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Holloway pushes Lewson up against the cage in a clinch. Holloway has clasped his hands together around Lewson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Holloway connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Lewson some visible discomfort.
Lewson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Holloway looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lewson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Lewson tries to get to full guard but Holloway has control of the leg. Lewson is still trying to improve position. Holloway knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lewson on the ground. Holloway seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Lewson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Holloway is working away from the top position though. Lewson manages to get to full guard.
Holloway won't allow Lewson to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lewson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Holloway doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Holloway manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lewson is on top in guard.
Lewson passes Holloway's left leg - he's now in half guard. Lewson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Holloway defend it? Lewson steps over the head and cranks it - Holloway is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Lewson!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). BJ Lewson!
