And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 12 losses; Hendrix Cabrera! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Chad Campbell and Jorge Garcia.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Goble shoots in and bounces Cabrera off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Goble (2) vs (0) Cabrera Goble slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Goble won't allow Cabrera to sweep him here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Goble slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Goble stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cabrera swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's five minutes gone in the round. Goble is taking a breather. Cabrera says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cabrera tries to roll over but Goble keeps him under control.

Goble wants to free his trapped foot but Cabrera is holding on for dear life with his legs. Goble is working hard here to advance position.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Goble takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Goble trying to advance position but Cabrera counters by regaining guard. Goble won't allow Cabrera to sweep him here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Goble sitting in guard here, content to control. We've been hearing good reports from Goble's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Cabrera controls Goble momentarily but Goble frees himself. Cabrera is pulling down on Goble's head to control his posture.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Goble preventing the sweep. Cabrera being controlled here, momentarily. Cabrera not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Cabrera can't keep his opponent in guard - Goble advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Cabrera is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag. Cabrera is trying to get back to full guard. Cabrera wants to control but Goble is keeping busy.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Cabrera is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Goble wants to free his trapped foot but Cabrera is holding on for dear life with his legs. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Goble is taking a breather. Cabrera says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that's the end of the fight! Goble takes the fight on points by 2 to 0. A relieved looking Shane Goble thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
