And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 11 losses; Senger Line! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Line shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cruz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Cruz (0) vs (2) Line Cruz being controlled here, momentarily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Line tries to free his leg and advance position but Cruz is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Line not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Cruz has Line pulled in close to control his posture.

We've been hearing good reports from Cruz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Cruz is fighting to break Line's control of his arms but Line is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Our spies down at at HELLCADEMY inform us that Line has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Cruz pushes down on Line's leg and manages to get into half guard. Cruz wants to pass the guard but Line is defending well. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Line is looking to control Cruz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Line avoid being mounted?

Cruz takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Line holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Cruz passes to side control. That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Line tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cruz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Cruz is staying tight to Line's torso, preventing him from escaping. Line is trying to control Cruz's posture but Cruz avoids it. Line is looking for a sweep.

And that's the end of the fight! Cruz takes the fight on points by 8 to 2. A relieved looking Darian Cruz thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
