PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Danny Fudge (ranked 2566 p4p, 25257 weight class) and Aldemiro Ponenki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ponenki has chosen A Vida É Desafio as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Danny Fudge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aldemiro Ponenki!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fudge keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Fudge fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ponenki fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fudge manages to avoid it.

and Fudge counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Fudge looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ponenki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fudge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Fudge seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ponenki for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Fudge shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ponenki pinned against the cage. Ponenki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

We've been told by Fudge's head coaches at MMS that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Fudge closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Fudge lands in his opponent's guard.
Ponenki wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Fudge manages to pass to side control.

Fudge not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Fudge wants to control from the top but Ponenki keeps moving.

Fudge has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ponenki just misses with a punch to the body.
Fudge drops down looking for a counter takedown but Ponenki sprawls and moves away.
Ponenki slaps away a takedown attempt from Fudge, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Aldemiro Ponenki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
