The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Borgia scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Rules is trying to get back to full guard. Borgia controlling the action here. Rules tries to get to full guard but Borgia has control of the leg. Borgia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rules keeps working.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Borgia sitting and controlling from the half guard. Borgia's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Borgia prevents Rules from improving his position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Borgia in particular looking to stall. Borgia is thwarting Rules's attempts to control the position. Rules is doing well to control the position and prevent Borgia from advancing to side control. Borgia is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rules has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rules is looking for a sweep. Borgia is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Borgia controlling the action here.

 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Rules is refusing to be controlled, as Borgia sits in half guard. Rules holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Borgia in particular looking to stall. Rules trying to control from the bottom.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Borgia is looking to take a break and control but Rules is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rules won't allow Borgia to pass to mount. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rules is concentrating on defense, preventing Borgia from advancing position.

Cesare Borgia decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. |
