This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 40 wins and 49 losses; Darian Cruz! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 13 losses; Hendrix Cabrera! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Cabrera gets a double leg takedown into Cruz's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Cruz (0) vs (2) Cabrera Cabrera looking to pass the guard. We've been hearing good reports from Cruz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Cruz wants to sweep here but Cabrera controlling him for the moment. Cabrera controlling from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cruz is trying to keep Cabrera in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Cruz. Cabrera sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cruz's guard. Cruz wants to control but Cabrera is keeping busy and won't allow it. Cabrera prevents Cruz from improving his position. Cruz moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cabrera is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. It looks like Cabrera might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Cabrera's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Cruz wants to sweep here but Cabrera controlling him for the moment. Cabrera pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cruz is keeping the position for now. Cabrera showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's six minutes gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Let's hope that Cabrera has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Cruz pulls Cabrera in close to prevent any damage. Cruz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Cabrera stays in close to Cruz's body and controls the position. Cabrera stopping the sweep attempt from Cruz. Cruz controls Cabrera momentarily but Cabrera frees himself. Cabrera trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Cruz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Cabrera sitting in guard, not really doing much. That's twelve minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cabrera is on top in guard.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Cabrera engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Cruz has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Cabrera won't allow Cruz to sweep him here. Cabrera controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Cruz has his hands on Cabrera's head, controlling the position. Cruz wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Cabrera is now in half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Still in half guard, Cabrera seems content to control.
And that's the end of the fight! Cabrera wins on points by 4 to 2. Our winner, Hendrix Cabrera, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. |
