This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 6 losses; Abasi Njagi! And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 5 losses; Alistair Ubereem! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Njagi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ubereem but Ubereem pushes him off and we're back to square one. Ubereem fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Njagi avoids it really well and circles away. Ubereem darts in looking for a takedown but Njagi gets double underhooks and turns Ubereem into the cage. Njagi dives in for a single leg takedown but Ubereem sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Njagi stops a takedown attempt from Ubereem.
Abasi Njagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alistair Ubereem. Ubereem tries for a takedown but Njagi manages to get underhooks.
Ubereem pulls guard successfully.
Njagi wants to control from the top but Ubereem keeps moving. Njagi tries to free his leg and advance position but Ubereem is retaining full guard. Njagi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Njagi drops back looking for a leg! Ubereem is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ubereem manages to kick Njagi off! Njagi jumps back into Ubereem's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ubereem is pulling down on Njagi's head. It's preventing any offense from Njagi, at least for the moment. Njagi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Njagi trying to control but Ubereem is working from the bottom. Njagi drops back looking for a leg! Ubereem is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ubereem manages to kick Njagi off! Njagi jumps back into Ubereem's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ubereem looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ubereem escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Njagi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Njagi pushing down on Ubereem's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Ubereem is looking to improve his position.
Njagi in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Ubereem tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Njagi!
