Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Cowan (ranked 1132 p4p, 1349 weight class) and Tahboule Alawi (ranked 108 p4p, 123 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Alawi's choice of entrance music: The Ruler of Everything. Tahboule Alawi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Mickey Cowan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tahboule Alawi!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cowan tests Alawi's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Cowan swings for the body but Alawi moves out of range.
Alawi tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Cowan throws a leg kick

so Alawi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cowan is wriggling around but Alawi manages to pass to half guard.
Alawi wants to pass the guard but Cowan is defending well.
Alawi works his way into side control.
Alawi advances to full mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cowan is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cowan's coaches at Tokyo All-Stars have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Alawi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cowan is looking to escape.

Alawi is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cowan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cowan shrugs it off.

You get the feeling that Cowan really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Alawi is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Cowan is in real trouble.

Alawi just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Cowan is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Alawi gets his way!

That's time! Cowan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Cowan connects with a body shot that sends Alawi's belly button to the back.
Alawi shoots in looking for a takedown. Cowan tries to sprawl out of it but Alawi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cowan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cowan appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alawi shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Cowan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alawi moves away.
Alawi tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Cowan lands a nice looking body shot.

Mickey Cowan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tahboule Alawi.
Cowan looks to land a combination but Alawi avoids it well.

and Cowan cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Alawi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cowan circles away.
Cowan tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alawi was well out of range. Poor timing from Cowan.

Alawi ducks right into an uppercut from Cowan.

Cowan fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Alawi on the side of the head.

Alawi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cowan is trying to defend but Alawi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Alawi shoots in for a takedown but Cowan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Alawi works to advance to full mount. Cowan defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Cowan is squirming around, avoiding Alawi's attempts to control the action.
Cowan wants to get back to his feet.
Alawi wants to take Cowan's back but he can't do it this time.

Cowan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Alawi can do to turn this around?

Alawi has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cowan has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Let's hope that Alawi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Tahboule Alawi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Alawi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
