PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xxx Xxx (ranked 22668 p4p, 22591 weight class) and Xxx Xxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 138 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 128 - 30 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Fighter A throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fighter B's waist but Fighter B gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Fighter A off to one side.
Fighter A shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fighter B sprawls well. Fighter B wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fighter A gets slowly back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fighter B shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Fighter A's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A working a defensive guard but Fighter B passes into half guard.
Fighter A trying to control but Fighter B postures up.
Fighter B thows a huge punch but Fighter A dodges it nicely.
Fighter B not doing much here.
Fighter A is looking to control Fighter B's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fighter A avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fighter A tries to roll over but Fighter B keeps him under control.
Fighter B looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Fighter A.

Fighter B sneaks out the side door and pushes Fighter A away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fighter A is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Fighter B's half guard.
Fighter B is trying is best to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A is looking to advance position but Fighter B won't allow it.
Fighter A thows a huge punch but Fighter B dodges it nicely.
Fighter A not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Fighter B preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fighter B can do anything to dispel that myth.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter B is refusing to be controlled, as Fighter A sits in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that round.
That's time! Fighter A's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Fighter B fails with a takedown attempt.
Fighter A misses with a takedown attempt
and Fighter B counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Fighter A is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Fighter A shoots in but Fighter B avoids the takedown attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter A tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fighter B paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fighter B with the counter takedown but Fighter A avoids it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fighter A.
Fighter B is trying to counter with his kicks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xxx Xxx. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fighter A tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fighter B sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fighter A somewhat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Fighter B scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Fighter B controlling from side mount.
Fighter B working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Fighter A seems a little lost for a moment, as Fighter B dominates the positioning.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Fighter A fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
And Fighter B responds with a good body kick, but Fighter A manages to step out the way in time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fighter B shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fighter A but Fighter A pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fighter B has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Fighter B feints and as Fighter A raises his hands in defense, Fighter B changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter B controls from within his opponent's guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Fighter A's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Fighter A drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fighter B is controlling Fighter A's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter A throws an elbow that misses. Fighter B uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Fighter A's guard. Nice move by Fighter B!

Fighter B being controlled here momentarily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fighter A is trying to keep Fighter B in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fighter A being controlled here, momentarily.
Fighter A manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fighter B manages to get himself to full guard.

Fighter A cracks Fighter B with a solid left hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A throws an elbow that misses. Fighter B uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Fighter A's guard. Nice move by Fighter B!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Fighter A has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Fighter A is looking to sweep but instead, Fighter B has passed into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fighter B missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Fighter B controlling the pace.
Xxx Xxx has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Xxx Xxx is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Xxx Xxx.
Well Fighter B has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
