PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tapad Amiga (ranked 23353 p4p, 23331 weight class) and Helen Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 38 - 79 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tapad Amiga! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 51 - 64 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helen Salvacion! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Amiga closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Salvacion's guard. Salvacion managing to control the position. Salvacion being controlled here, momentarily. Salvacion seems keen to control Amiga's posture. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salvacion wants to sweep here but Amiga controlling him for the moment.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Amiga slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Amiga won't allow Salvacion to sweep him here.
 The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Salvacion has a takedown stuffed. Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Amiga fails with a takedown attempt. Salvacion counters with a body kick.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Amiga napping and manages to drive through into side control!
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Salvacion is staying tight to Amiga's torso, preventing him from escaping. Amiga struggling a bit here. Amiga tries to get back to half guard but can't.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. You can see the frustration on Amiga's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Salvacion trying to control the position but Amiga is working away. A lull in the action here. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Amiga is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Salvacion off and has taken his back! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Tapad Amiga dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Salvacion dives in and grabs Amiga's left leg, looking for a takedown. Amiga pushes down on Salvacion's head and hops out. Amiga quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. Salvacion stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Salvacion wants it to stay on the feet. Salvacion is trying to counter with his kicks.
Salvacion closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Salvacion lands in his opponent's guard. Amiga being controlled here, momentarily. Tapad Amiga overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salvacion throwing strikes but missing.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Salvacion controlling from the top position.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Amiga keeping moving, preventing Salvacion from controlling successfully. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Amiga wants to sweep but no luck. Amiga throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Salvacion looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Amiga thinks about countering with a body kick.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Amiga changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Salvacion tries to avoid it but Amiga manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Salvacion to the ground. Salvacion escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Horrible takedown attempt by Salvacion or perhaps it was just good defense by Amiga, which made it look bad. Tapad Amiga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Helen Salvacion.
Salvacion drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Salvacion happy to just control the position for now. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Helen Salvacion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Amiga moves out of range as Salvacion throws a body kick.
Amiga looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Salvacion is fending him off so far but Amiga persists. Nope, Salvacion circles away and we're back to standing.
Amiga drives through with a takedown into Salvacion's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Amiga is fighting to break Salvacion's control of his arms but Salvacion is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salvacion is trying to keep Amiga in close.
Salvacion has control of Amiga's left arm, preventing Amiga from doing any damage.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Amiga trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Salvacion is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Salvacion is pulling down on Amiga's head. It's preventing any offense from Amiga, at least for the moment.
 The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Amiga shoots in but no luck this time. Salvacion steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Salvacion looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Nice takedown defense from Amiga. No joy for Salvacion on that attempt. Amiga feinted there with a counter leg kick. Amiga tries to clinch but Salvacion is having none of it. Salvacion throws a fast counter high kick but Amiga manages to duck under it in time.
 That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga gets caught flat footed, as Salvacion shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Salvacion trying to control the position from guard on top but Amiga is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Amiga wants to stand and escape but Salvacion is having none of it. Amiga pulls Salvacion in to control the position. Salvacion not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Amiga seems keen to control Salvacion's posture. Salvacion's corner is telling him to maintain position. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
 The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Amiga fails with the takedown.
And that's the end of the fight! Helen Salvacion comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Salvacion has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
