Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Nunez (ranked 3839 p4p, 25574 weight class) and Tom Drechsler (ranked 0 p4p, 450 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Drechsler's choice of entrance music: Back in Black. Drechsler has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Tom Drechsler has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ivan Nunez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Drechsler! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Eddie Farnsworth and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nunez keeps the fight on the outside. Drechsler looks winded! Nunez throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Drechsler instigates a clinch. Nunez tries to score a body lock takedown but Drechsler shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Nunez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Drechsler walks away with a smile on his face. Nunez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Nunez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Drechsler as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Nunez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nunez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Nunez is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Nunez shoots in and drives through. Drechsler sprawls well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nunez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Nunez creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Drechsler sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nunez wants to stand but Drechsler is controlling his arm.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nunez trying to control the position but Drechsler is working away. Nunez throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Nunez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drechsler keeps working. Drechsler is letting Nunez control him for a moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Drechsler is looking for a sweep. Nunez works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Nunez is looking to take a break and control but Drechsler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Nunez stands up and we're back to a striking position. Nunez shoots for a takedown but Drechsler saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Drechsler tries to counter with a clinch but Nunez shakes him off and moves away. Nunez tries to land a front kick but Drechsler steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nunez wants to clinch up but Drechsler keeps it at a distance. Nunez clinches up against the cage. Nunez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Drechsler just stands there and leans against the cage. Nunez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Nunez throws a sloppy head kick and Drechsler moves out of range easily. Drechsler with the counter takedown but Nunez avoids it easily. The fight stays on the outside here - Nunez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Nunez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Nunez has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Nunez tries to break the clinch but Drechsler is controlling the position. Drechsler blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Drechsler is pressed up against the cage. Nunez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Drechsler down to the mat. Drechsler avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Drechsler keeps the fight on the outside. A countering left hand to the body from Drechsler misses. Nunez tries to clinch but fails miserably letting Drechsler counter with a right hand. Nunez tries to clinch there but Drechsler circles away.
Drechsler slips a jab from Nunez. Drechsler looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nunez tries for a takedown but Drechsler sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. The fight stays on the outside here - Nunez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ivan Nunez will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Nunez pushes Drechsler up against the cage in a clinch. Nunez looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Nunez breaks from the clinch.
Drechsler tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nunez paws at him with a jab and circles away. Nunez is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Nunez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Drechsler to the mat! Drechsler manages to get full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nunez trying to control the position from guard on top but Drechsler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nunez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Nunez throws a big elbow that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Drechsler being controlled here, momentarily. Drechsler is breathing heavily. Nunez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Drechsler's guard. Nunez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Nunez stands up from half guard. Drechsler displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nunez. Nunez doesn't manage to clinch there - Drechsler circles away.
Nunez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nunez shoots in and gets a takedown into Drechsler's guard. Drechsler pushes Nunez off and gets back to his feet.
Drechsler closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nunez circles away. Drechsler gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Drechsler uses the cage to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nunez throws the kick towards the body but Drechsler avoids it. Drechsler shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nunez but Nunez pushes him off and we're back to square one. Nunez lands a high kick!

Nunez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Drechsler defends well and Nunez ends up having to push Drechsler into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Nunez takes a swing at Drechsler's ribcage but misses. Drechsler avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Nunez wants to clinch and Drechsler counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Nunez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Drechsler manages to pass to side control. Drechsler is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Drechsler prevents Nunez from standing back up.
Nunez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Ivan Nunez will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Nunez gets a double leg takedown into Drechsler's guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Nunez's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Nunez is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Nunez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Drechsler wants to control the position but Nunez says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nunez seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Drechsler pushes Nunez off looking to stand but Nunez dives back in and keeps control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Nunez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Drechsler is trying to defend but Nunez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Drechsler wants to control but Nunez is keeping busy and won't allow it. Nunez trying to mount his opponent but Drechsler defends it. Drechsler tries to get to full guard but Nunez has control of the leg. Nunez is looking to take a break and control but Drechsler is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Drechsler tries to roll over but Nunez keeps him under control. Nunez thows a huge punch but Drechsler dodges it nicely.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Drechsler tries to roll over but Nunez keeps him under control.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. The fight stays on the outside here - Nunez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Nunez fails with a takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Nunez scores with a takedown into Drechsler's guard. Drechsler is adopting a defensive guard. Drechsler is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Nunez trying to hold on to Drechsler's head to control him but Drechsler postures up.
And that's the end of the fight! Ivan Nunez showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nunez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
