PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Cavahlo (ranked 3037 p4p, 4074 weight class) and TW GC (ranked 321 p4p, 396 weight class). TW GC is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Xavier Cavahlo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, TW GC!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Francis DeMontford and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
GC misses with a wild body shot.
GC stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and GC wants it to stay on the feet.
Cavahlo moves away from the strike by GC.
Cavahlo is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
GC closes the distance and clinches up with Cavahlo, looking for a takedown. GC pushes Cavahlo against the cage but Cavahlo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Cavahlo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. GC quickly recovers to half guard.

GC is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cavahlo pulls his head out easily.

Cavahlo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
GC manages to get to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cavahlo wants to stand but GC has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

GC is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cavahlo defends well.
Cavahlo wants to control from the top but GC keeps moving.

GC is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
GC is striking off his back. Cavahlo thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

GC parries the strikes from Cavahlo easily there. Cavahlo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable GC to escape.

Cavahlo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. GC knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Cavahlo goes for an armbar but GC turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from GC.
Cavahlo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
GC wants to control from the top but Cavahlo keeps moving.

Cavahlo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've been told by Cavahlo's head coaches at Tran MMA Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Cavahlo.
GC is still on wobbly legs! Can Cavahlo finish him?
GC is breathing heavily.

Cavahlo rushes GC and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cavahlo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that GC can do to turn this around?
Cavahlo bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in GC's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if GC can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cavahlo works to advance to full mount. GC defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
GC is trying to reverse the position but instead Cavahlo has taken his back - oops!
GC is really stuck here.
Cavahlo throws a series of strikes and GC wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here.
GC stops Cavahlo from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cavahlo sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
GC really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cavahlo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cavahlo manages to capitalize on a mistake by GC to take his back!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Cavahlo doesn't manage to clinch there - GC circles away.

GC shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cavahlo napping and manages to drive through into side control!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

GC working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Cavahlo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but GC can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
GC works over Cavahlo with some ground and pound from guard.
GC postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Cavahlo is pulling down on GC's head. It's preventing any offense from GC, at least for the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Cavahlo closes this distance looking for a takedown but GC circles away.

GC tries to close the distance and clinch but Cavahlo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

GC will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
GC looks to score with a jab to the body but Cavahlo is just out of range.

GC throws a nice looking combination but Cavahlo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Cavahlo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but GC does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Xavier Cavahlo.
Well Cavahlo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
