The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Pancake looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Cowboy steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Pancake. Pancake keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Pancake will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Cowboy clinches up with Pancake and pushes him back against the ropes. Pancake has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cowboy uses from the top position. Cowboy passes into half guard. Pancake keeps control of the position for the meantime. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pancake is staying active underneath Cowboy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cowboy prevents Pancake from improving his position. Cowboy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cowboy trying to control the action but Pancake is working from the bottom. Cowboy is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pancake gets back to full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Pancake keeping moving, preventing Cowboy from controlling successfully. Pancake is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Cowboy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pancake manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cowboy has Pancake in his guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Pancake (2) vs (0) Cowboy Cowboy is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cowboy can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pancake wants to pass the guard but Cowboy is keeping the position. Cowboy wants to reverse the position here. Pancake has hold of a leg though and he's dropped back looking for a kneebar! The fighters roll across the mat but Cowboy is forced to tap! Cowboy looks devastated but at least his leg points in the right direction.
