Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Santa Cruz (ranked 1892 p4p, 2187 weight class) and Armus Tar Monster (ranked 195 p4p, 226 weight class). Tar Monster has chosen Tech N9ne - Hard as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Santa Cruz could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Armus Tar Monster's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Armus Tar Monster!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
A big left from Cruz misses.
Cruz has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Grapple in the buildup to the fight.
Tar Monster moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Tar Monster throws a looping overhand right but Cruz ducks down to avoid it.
Cruz misses the body punch
and Tar Monster connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cruz misses with an uppercut.

Tar Monster has taken the fight to the clinch.
Cruz is trying to break free.
Tar Monster is trying to pull guard but Cruz has him pressed against the cage.

Cruz is looking to stand up but Tar Monster won't let him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tar Monster is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cruz defends well.
Cruz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Tar Monster escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cruz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Tar Monster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cruz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cruz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cruz is looking to stand up but Tar Monster won't let him.
Cruz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Tar Monster on the ground.

Cruz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tar Monster has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cruz has managed to get both his arms back between Tar Monster's legs - danger averted.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tar Monster is on top in guard.

Tar Monster stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cruz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Tar Monster is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Tar Monster thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Tar Monster advances to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cruz controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Tar Monster takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Tar Monster is trying to work for a kimura but Cruz is defending well.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tar Monster is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Tar Monster content to control rather than advance.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Armus Tar Monster dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Cruz throws a big shot that misses.
Tar Monster tries to counter by closing the distance.
Cruz throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cruz scores with a three punch combo!
Tar Monster bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

enabling Tar Monster to counter with a crisp jab.

Cruz cracks Tar Monster with a right hand to the side of the head.
Tar Monster checks the leg kick nicely there.
Tar Monster tries to counter with a clinch but Cruz shakes him off and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cruz throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cruz throws a hook to the side of Tar Monster's head but Tar Monster sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Tar Monster finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
A solid leg kick lands there for Cruz.
Tar Monster slips under a jab from Cruz.

Tar Monster doesn't manage to clinch there - Cruz circles away.
Tar Monster misses with an uppercut. Cruz saw that one coming.
Cruz is looking to counter punch.
Cruz feints a jab promting Tar Monster to slip. Cruz then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Tar Monster slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Cruz throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Tar Monster on the side of the head.
Cruz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Tar Monster.

Cruz connects with a body shot that sends Tar Monster's belly button to the back.
Tar Monster closes the distance looking to clinch
and Cruz counters with a nice uppercut.
Cruz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Tar Monster.
Cruz sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Tar Monster ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cruz moves away.
It looked like Cruz was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Tar Monster.
Tar Monster throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cruz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Tar Monster moves into the clinch.

Tar Monster pulls guard.

Tar Monster had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cruz defends it easily.

Tar Monster has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cruz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cruz wants to stand and escape but instead Tar Monster has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Tar Monster wants to control from the top but Cruz keeps moving.

Tar Monster is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Cruz is pushing Tar Monster's head away, looking to escape. Tar Monster manages to hold on to the position though.
Cruz is looking to get back to his feet here but Tar Monster is keeping cool and he's managed to take Cruz's back.

Cruz won't enjoy being in this position. Tar Monster looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Cruz is tapping - it's over boys! Tar Monster picks up the submission victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Armus Tar Monster!
