PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Arkadiy Hammerov (ranked 2556 p4p, 25078 weight class) and Wilfredo Eduardo Moreno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hammerov might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bananza (Belly Dancer). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Arkadiy Hammerov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wilfredo Eduardo Moreno!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hammerov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Moreno to the mat! Moreno manages to get full guard.

Hammerov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hammerov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hammerov postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Moreno to stand up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Moreno stops a takedown attempt from Hammerov.

Moreno gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Hammerov pushes Moreno off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Arkadiy Hammerov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Moreno goes for a double leg but Hammerov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hammerov continues to drive forward.
Moreno shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hammerov but Hammerov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Moreno shoots for a takedown but Hammerov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hammerov half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Hammerov is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Moreno manages to break the clinch.

Hammerov fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Moreno to the ground. Hammerov is now in Moreno's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hammerov decides to pull guard.
Moreno wants to control from the top but Hammerov keeps moving.
Hammerov lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Moreno has his foot on Hammerov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hammerov works his way back into a safe position though.

Hammerov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Moreno looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Moreno looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Moreno!

Hammerov is looking for a sweep.
Moreno wants to control but Hammerov is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammerov tries to buck Moreno off but Moreno is having none of it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Arkadiy Hammerov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Moreno closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hammerov has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Moreno is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Moreno is pressed up against the cage. Hammerov has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Moreno down to the mat. Moreno avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
A head kick misses from Hammerov.
Moreno feints the counter takedown.

Hammerov doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Hammerov successfully pulls guard.

Hammerov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Moreno defends it easily.

Hammerov tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Moreno working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Moreno controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Moreno wanted to stand there but Hammerov had control of the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hammerov is trying to keep Moreno in close.

Hammerov pushes Moreno off and scrambles back to his feet.
Moreno lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

and Moreno counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Moreno.
Hammerov scores with a nice hook to the head.

A frustrated look appears on Moreno's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Moreno is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Hammerov turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Hammerov decides to stand back up.

Moreno closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Well, if Moreno is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hammerov pushes Moreno off looking to stand but Moreno dives back in and keeps control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hammerov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Moreno pulls his head out easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Arkadiy Hammerov will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Moreno misses with an attempted mid kick.
Moreno shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hammerov as he jumps to the side.
Hammerov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Moreno is defended easily by Hammerov.
Moreno shoots for a takedown but Hammerov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Hammerov explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Hammerov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Moreno sprawls well. Moreno wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hammerov gets slowly back to his feet.
Moreno darts in looking for a takedown but Hammerov gets double underhooks and turns Moreno into the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Moreno gets caught napping as Hammerov dives in and scores a takedown. Moreno manages to retain guard.
Moreno wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Hammerov manages to pass to side control.

Hammerov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Moreno is just riding it out for now. Hammerov eventually gives up the hold.

Hammerov is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Moreno has managed to free his arm - good work.
Arkadiy Hammerov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Moreno keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Hammerov stands up from half guard.
Hammerov shoots for a double leg takedown but Moreno sprawls well. He's pushed Hammerov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That kick from Hammerov tenderised Moreno's leg. Moreno is trying to keep his angry face on.
Hammerov moves in looking to clinch but Moreno pushes him off.

Hammerov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Moreno's guard.

Moreno has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hammerov is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Moreno.
Wilfredo Eduardo Moreno has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Arkadiy Hammerov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hammerov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hammerov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Arkadiy Hammerov decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
