Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Boris (ranked 778 p4p, 1206 weight class) and Gerald Phoenix (ranked 103 p4p, 158 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Boris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Gerald Phoenix! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Phoenix takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Boris uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Phoenix. Nice defenses there by Boris. Phoenix slips under a jab. Boris moves away from the strike by Phoenix. Boris lands with a nice body punch. Phoenix swings for the body but Boris moves out of range.
Boris misses with a left hand and Phoenix counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
It looks like John Boris has been cut. Phoenix throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Boris. Boris tries to counter with a takedown but Phoenix is quick to defend against it. Donk. Boris catches Phoenix right on the button with a cross. Phoenix doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Boris seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Phoenix tries to move into range but Boris moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Phoenix scores with a crisp jab that stopped Boris in his tracks. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Boris throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Phoenix tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Boris is in Phoenix's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boris drops back looking for a leg! Phoenix is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Phoenix manages to kick Boris off! Boris jumps back into Phoenix's guard. Boris is fighting to break Phoenix's control of his arms but Phoenix is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Phoenix being controlled here, momentarily. Phoenix really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Boris. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Phoenix is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Phoenix's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Boris looking to pass the guard. Boris scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Phoenix looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Boris scoring with some ground and pound. Boris is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Boris's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Boris throws a lazy right hand but Phoenix sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Phoenix scores with a hook. Nice defenses there by Phoenix. Phoenix throws a jab when Boris was well out of range. Boris looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Phoenix is fending him off so far but Boris persists. Nope, Phoenix circles away and we're back to standing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boris lands with a hook. Phoenix tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Boris misses with a takedown attempt and Phoenix counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Phoenix. Phoenix lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Boris backwards. Boris drops down looking for an ankle pick but Phoenix pulls his leg out and moves away.

Boris lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Boris throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Phoenix to regain full guard. Boris won't allow Phoenix to get back to his feet. Boris trying to control the position from guard on top but Phoenix is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Boris postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Phoenix is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Boris, into his guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Phoenix is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Boris ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Phoenix ducks under a wild hook from Boris. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Phoenix throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Boris shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Phoenix sprawls well. Phoenix wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Boris gets slowly back to his feet. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Phoenix knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Boris swings around for an armbar but Phoenix sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Boris's guard. Boris working for a triangle but Phoenix defends it easily.

and Boris decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Phoenix's guard.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Gerald Phoenix. I think Boris has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... John Boris! After the fight, John Boris was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
