PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Karter Carey (ranked 21893 p4p, 25559 weight class) and Massey Mike (ranked 493 p4p, 463 weight class). Karter Carey is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Karter Carey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Massey Mike!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mike tries to close the distance and clinch but Carey swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Carey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mike unleashes a big counter combination but Carey bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Carey shoots for a takedown but Mike saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mike throws a head kick that Carey semi-blocks.
Mike dives in for a single leg takedown but Carey sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Carey takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Mike tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Carey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Mike moves into the clinch successfully.
Mike tries to break free but Carey pushes him back against the cage.

Mike's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carey fails to land with a series of punches.

and Mike counters with a left to the body.

Mike swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Carey counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Mike shoots in for a takedown but Carey shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Carey manages to break the clinch.
Mike tries to score a power double leg takedown but Carey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mike somewhat.
Mike throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mike tries for a takedown but Carey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Carey changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mike looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carey lands an elbow.
Mike is looking for a sweep.
Carey controlling the position from side mount.
Carey's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Carey is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mike has escaped the position, nice work there.

Carey in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Mike gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Still in half guard, Carey seems content to control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Carey tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mike knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That was a close round but I would say that Karter Carey will probably get the nod.

Carey tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mike jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Carey walks away with a smile on his face. Mike gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Carey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mike does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Mike is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Carey jumps into side control!

Mike closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Carey did well to prevent Mike getting side control.

Mike goes for a double leg but Carey avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Carey continues to drive forward.

Carey jumps into guard, dragging Mike to the mat.
Massey Mike has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Carey escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mike gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Carey wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Carey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mike's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carey controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Karter Carey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Carey is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Mike not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Carey stands and throws Mike's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Carey slows the pace down.
Mike manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Mike has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carey is working away from the top position though.
Carey prevents Mike from improving his position.
Nice strikes from Carey there.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carey connects with a nice short shot to Mike's temple.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Carey in particular looking to stall.
Mike controlling the position well.
Carey works his way into full mount!

And that's the end of the fight!
Karter Carey showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Carey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
